Akstein Eye Center has been open for over 23 years.  We service the Southern Crescent with offices in Riverdale and McDonough.  We have a large, caring staff many of whom have been with this practice for over a decade.

Dr. Ricardo Akstein

At the core of this practice is our founder, Dr. Ricardo Akstein.  A native of Rio de Janeiro, Dr. Akstein is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Akstein is a member of the American College of Surgeons as well as the International College of Surgeons.

Dr. Akstein has taught at GA Tech, Emory University School of Medicine and the Veterans Administration Hospital.  

He is also a past member of the Board of Directors of the Medical Association of Atlanta serving from 2003 through 2005.
 

Dr. Akstein has been honored by his colleagues with 11 awards since 1971 and has published 15 papers during the same period.  He is also an active member of 17 medical organizations.

Linda Bunch

Ms Bunch started in the Optometric field in 1986 opening stores for Vision Works in Florida. She later moved to the Atlanta area went to work for Opti-World. She quickly moved up in the company to become a manager. Along the way she decided to make a shift in her career path and went to work for Ophthalmologist in the area.

Following a severe car accident Linda elected to make another career change. Using her management  and technical optometric background she  came to work for Dr. Akstein in 1995 first as the Office Manager and then was promoted to Practice Administrator in 2001. Linda is a member of the AAO and ASCRS and loves her work!

 




Dr. Vidya P. Phoenix

Effective January 2009, the newest addition to our practice is Dr. Vidya Phoenix. Dr. Phoenix is a general adult ophthalmologist as well as a fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologist. Originally from Atlanta, Dr. Phoenix attended Woodward Academy in College Park.  From there she went on to major in Chemisty at GA Tech graduating Magna cum Laude.

Dr. Phoenix attended medical school at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and then did her residency at the West Virginia School of Medicine where she was the Chief Resident in Ophthalmology.
 

Dr. Phoenix has recently completed a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology At Emory University School of Medicine where where she served as a staff physician at both Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and the Grady Health System.

To date Dr. Phoenix has made over a dozen professional presentation and has been recognized with numerous awards including being appointed: Resident Liaison to Task Force to Improve Veteran's Eye Care.
